On 16th September 1966, a degree college was established exclusively for Commerce discipline to run in the evening shift, named after the great scientist and philosopher Acharya Prafulla Chandra Roy, perhaps as a logical conclusion following the first instance of naming the local day college(APC College) after him. The college started its journey as a Co-educational Evening college christened as “ACHARYA PRAFULLA CHANDRA COLLEGE OF COMMERCE” with Pre-University as well as B.Com (Genl.) Course affiliated to the University of Calcutta. B.Com(Honours) in Accountancy course started from 2003. To meet the prolonged students' demand, this college had been rechristened as "Naba Barrackpur Prafulla Chandra Mahavidyalaya" in 2005 which obtained extension of affiliation of four Arts subjects (Bengali, English, History, Political Science) for General Course and BA(Honours) Course in Economics.  It is significant to mention that the two storied new college building was inaugurated and shifted to Ward No. 20 of New Barrackpore Municipality near Bishorpara Railway Station (just 100 metres away from the station which is definitely a great locational advantage for the college) where Day Section was started on and from 17th September, 2007. NBPCM got affiliated to West Bengal State University from the session 2008-2009. Presently havoc construction and beautification work is getting carried out in and around the college premises and our college is going to get a very modern “state –of- the- art” infra-structure very shortly.The college has a central library with a considerable number of textbooks, reference books, periodicals, magazines and journals. The library is run by the Librarian under the guidance of the college authority. The library can be used by a student as per the rules of the concerned authority. It has a nice collection of books in the figure of about 16,000. The college library is partly automated using software Koha with the OPAC (Online Public, Access Catalogue) facility.
